Chris became interested in motorsport at an early age (8ish), but in 1996 he attended a 4 day racing driver’s course at Silverstone, this resulted in him being entering his first (and only) Formula Ford Race.
In November 2001 Chris marshalled his first race meeting at Donington Park. In 2002 Chris attended a course marshal and fire training course at Donington Park, later joining the BMMC.
Chris marshalled for the first time at a Harwood hill climb and subsequently did several meetings by the end of the 2002 season. He marshalled approximately 15 meeting at Donington Park and was awarded BMMC North East Speed Marshal of the year.
In 2003 Chris attended a speed marshal and fire training course at Harewood, followed by course marshal and fire training at Cadwell Park. Chris then became a full member of BARC, graded as a Course marshal and speed marshal
In 2004 Chris started training as Speed Observer and marshalled at Goodwood Festival of Speed and marshalled primarily at Cadwell Park.
In 2005 Chris helped Mike Shorley in locating and purchasing a suitable recovery truck for use at Harewood Hill climb. Chris also was graded as Incident Marshall and Speed Observer, he also marshalled Goodwood Festival of Speed.
2006 Chris attended Refresher fire and marshal training at Cadwell Park and Harewood.
2007 Again Chris attended Refresher fire and marshal training at Cadwell Park and Harewood, plus marshalled the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
2008 Chris was invited to train as a Clerk of the Course by Harewood Hillclimb
2009 Qualified as a Nat B speed Clerk of the course
Primarily his motorsport commitments consists of most meetings at Harewood Hill Climb in either the role of Clerk of the course or post chief. Chris is also one of the Clerks for a sprint held at Blyton Park by York & Huddersfield M/C once a year.
Chris likes to marshal circuit racing and try to get to at least 1 BTCC meeting usually at either Knockhill or Croft. Cadwell Park is another regular haunt for marshalling and goes there several times a year.
Chris enjoys walking in the Lake District and Scotland. He also enjoys world travel with holidays that usually involves some kind of wildlife watching.
He is a qualified private pilot which means he has a lifelong International Radio Telephony Licence which has proved very useful in his marshalling career.
