With the announcement that the Festival is taking private entries, we thought it would be good to show the quality of the cars already booked in.
Here is a superfast Beetle to start the ball rolling.
A very quick rundown of the car's specification.
Front suspension - Narrowed and lowered/adjustable Beetle beam, Porsche 996 brakes, modified hybrid Porsche/VW hubs
Rear suspension - Porsche 944, AVO coilovers, all mounted from the roll cage. Porsche Boxster brakes.
Wheels - Porsche 'teledials'; 6x15 fronts, 7x15 rears
Transmission - Renault UN1 (from a Renault 21 Turbo) 5-speed transaxle, flipped diff, Porsche 930 driveshafts, Toyota MR2 shifter (theoretically geared to 175mph @ 5500rpm)
Engine - 1915cc water-cooled VW flat-four from a 1990s VW transporter. Lots of mods, but most notably it's got a Holset HX35 turbo with liquid-to-air charge cooler, and standalone Megasquirt ECU controlling the EFI and ignition. Golf GTi radiator. Currently makes over 350bhp.
Chassis/Rollcage - Rear of chassis removed and replaced with spaceframe/rollcage. Engine, transaxle and rear suspension mounted directly to cage. Cage is MSA certified for 10.00 seconds
Interior - Custom Aluminium panels, Cobra seats, TRS Harnesses, Autometer gauges
Body - All steel, stock 1963 Beetle with Britax ragtop. Custom mix grey paint. Custom rear popout windows, one-piece electric front windows.
Its best 1/4 mile so far is 10.80 seconds @ 131mph, the paintwork, as you see it in these photos, is over 20 years old. The photos were taken in September 2019.
